Service Provider Business Case Study: Asia Pacific Operating Expenditures English version (PDF 430Kb) Japanese version (PDF 715Kb)
September 2004. Document Summary: The Metro Ethernet Forum worked with 18 service providers across Asia to identify actual OpEx savings for Metro Ethernet services compared to legacy Private Line, Frame Relay and ATM services. The results provide a detailed picture of the actual individual steps required to deliver a single data service to an enterprise customer and then monitor that service. Additionally, they provide not only a model for accurately tracking OpEx cost, but clearly identify cost savings for Metro Ethernet that can continue to grow over time. The full 54 page report of this study is available exclusively to MEF member companies. July 2003. Summary: This paper focuses on the results of a study commissioned by the MEF to quantify how Ethernet-over-fiber and next-generation SONET/SDH-based architectures afford the operational simplicity, data transport efficiency, and scalability required to offer service providers a superior return on investment (ROI). The study finds that the Ethernet based service solutions provide a 49 percent operational expense and 39 percent capital expense savings as compared to legacy SONET/SDH solutions.
